In an interview with People magazine, Pettiet revealed that he was molested as a child by a family friend. This traumatic experience left a deep scar on him, and he struggled with drug addiction and depression throughout his life. He also had a tumultuous relationship with his wife, Angela Pettiet, who he married in 2000. He was just 24 years old.
