When you look at any polished metal surface, it is the contrast of highlight and shadow together with the tone of the actual metal that determines how you perceive the shape of the object. In the case of a LEGO model, we typically make use of color to create these differentiations. There are numerous angled surfaces that merge here and create strong contrasting areas of highlight and shadow. I tried many different approaches, and I think the final solution addresses the challenges and stays true to the design language of the rest of the helmet. The shortcut here would have been to just change the color of 75277, the Boba Fett helmet, but we are driven by the idea that LEGO elements offer an infinite number of possibilities, so we continue the search for new ways to hopefully take it a step further.

If you look closely at reference images, you will notice that the helmet is slightly wider at the base, and the sides slope gently inwards. This feature is addressed in the Mandalorian helmet. Not even Darth Vader has glowing eyes! While the rest of the model was mostly another exercise in getting the shape right, designing the eyes and the surrounding area was the most fun for me! To get the menacing appearance of the original droids right I had to tilt down the front of the head -- like a bull lowering its head, ready to attack. It was important to catch the menacing aura of the dark troopers, and the hinge proved to be the key element. It helps with the overall shape as it makes everything blend together more easily but makes it difficult for details to stand out.
These are great fun for the intended younger fans, offering up a fun yet somewhat educational experience. The double-sided poster as usual features great artwork and worthy of hanging onto for LEGO room decoration. Also the Comic-strip stories are great fun to read especially with young fans, they often feature characters that are included as freebies with each magazine issue, this time around we get the a Star-Lord Minifigure and a brick-built Micro-fighter style Bowie ship.
This is another LEGO Minifigure where we get the usual transparent blue bricks as the rocket boosters. It has all the usual details and print applications covering it and even has some really nicely defined red and gold paneling down either side of the stomach. The only issue we can see is that while the Iron Man in the movie has a fully exposed Arc reactor, the Minifigure has half a reactor. It is fairly accurate to the suit we see on screen. However, they add more gold highlights on the torso and leg pieces. Perhaps this is because they used earlier concept art to base their prints on, or perhaps they just wanted to make the Minifigure look a little more interesting. It has a great-looking triangular Arc reactor printed in the center of the torso piece, and we like that LEGO gave it space to breathe, leaving the detailing towards the bottom of the torso and onto the legs. This Iron Man Minifigure comes complete with the wing accessories that he battles with. A harness goes around his neck and hangs on the back of the torso, and you simply assemble and clip the four arms to the harness. It looks neat and even has a blaster effect to add to the action shots. One issue is that the wings have stickers that need to be applied to them instead of the details being printed on. Some people might not mind this, while others will take issue with the stickers.
